Announcing on it’s official website, Leverkusen revealed terms of the contract where Real Madrid could bring back the player to Madrid in three years – an option Real Madrid used in the first year itself. Carvajal had signed for five million euros and to bring him back to Madrid, the club has to pay 6.5 million euros.
Bayer Leverkusen’s sporting director – Rudi Voeller said:
We are very sorry that we won’t have Daniel in our squad. But we knew from the beginning that Madrid would recognize his sporting value over a short or long term. He was so convincing this year that Real’s decision came as no surprise to us.
Wolfgang Holzhauser, Leverkusen’s general manager, said:
Daniel Carvajal has done well not only in terms of sport, but also as a human from day to leaving a great impression. So sorry for us to see his departure, we still want to give him the fulfillment of his childhood dream of playing in Real Madrid’s first team. Daniel has gone through all the youth teams of the club, he is a “Madridista” through and through. For his future in professional football, we wish him well.
Carvajal was voted as the second best player by Leverkusen’s players and also made it to XI of many footballing outlets.
He plays right back and solidifies the position which needed cover with only Alvaro Arbeloa being the primary player in that position. Additionally, he understands the club, has played in the youth squads before so he knows what is expected of him. He has added experience to his repertoire with this one year in Bundesliga where Leverkusen finished third in the table.
Welcome back, Dani!
