Know Thy Madridista : Kaushik Lakshman

After a week's break, for the team and this section, we're back! You can go back and read about previous Madridistas in this section or if you're lazy then here you go - Adam Bader , Saajid Vawda , Saviola87 , Elisa Uranga , Jose Miguel Urrutia and in the last edition it was Aliyu Dahiru.

Today its the turn of a Kaushik Lakshman who is one of the writers on Real Madrid Offside and a very passionate sports fan too. So let's get to it,shall we?

Tanuj : First up, tell us about you.
Kaushik : I'm a 21 year old guy brought up in Bangalore, India and currently living here after 4 years of engineering from a place I'm miss a lot these days. I play a lot of basketball, and follow lots of sports, football probably my favourite to watch. I have an interest in languages, economics, and human behaviour. I used to write a sports blog, and of late, have become a writer at Real Madrid Offside.

T : Since when have you been a Real Madrid fan? (if you happen to remember)
K : I've been a fan for almost 10 years now I guess. Started off when I was around 12 years old. I bleed white, as they say :)

T : What is your favourite part of Real Madrid football club?
K : Ah, so many things! Small things like the all white kit even make such an impact. Love the stadium, the ultra-sur, the fact that we care not only for results, but for beautiful football as well, and the fact that even after some lows this past decade, we are the centre of all footballing attention, hate, and we just seem to thrive on it.

T : Which has been your all time favourite Real Madrid player?
K : Zizou, of course. I really run out of words when I have to talk about this man. He exemplifies what a perfect footballer and a man must be. Humble, elegant and massively influential while at work. There was a sense of surety when he was on the pitch, that there is a guy you can depend on, and one who causes terror to oppositions. I mean, the guy is 4 years past retirement, and still looks like the best player in the world when he plays in those charity games.

T : A Real Madrid moment you can't forget?
K : There are good and bad ones. Champions league exits (especially the Juve loss aka The Pavel Nedved show) and clasico defeats are a scar in the memory, but the good ones include our own versions of clasico thrashings, Capello's title winning season, etc. The one that stands out though is the guard of honour incident.

T : La Liga or UCL, which one would you love to see us win more?
K : Call me crazy, but I think Liga. We may not be a fully finished product yet, in fact, we are far from it, so I think there are better teams in the UCL. But the Liga on the other hand, is already turning into a 2 horse race and its safe to assume that the return clasico will decide the winner. Nothing would be sweeter than avenging la manita and going on to win the title.

T : Which has been your favourite signing for this season? (excluding Mourinho)
K : Haha, Not the greatest fans of Mourinho here, so I would have not even thought of him. I would pick Di Maria. I was critical of him in the beginning but he's shown that he's a really classy player and a hard worker. Little bit of effort with regard to decision making and we have a world class winger.

T :Which game did you most enjoy this season?
K : Lots of good games like the Milan away, Deportivo thrashing etc, but I would pick our recent destruction of Levante in the Copa. 8-0 is a fantastic result and that too on the last game before the winter break which has been ominous for us, gave our team a much needed confidence.
