Before the team takes on Spurs tomorrow, Jose Mourinho, Xabi Alonso and Zinedine Zidane talked to the press about the game and as expected, some questions were about the El Clasico on the weekend.

Jose Mourinho, Manager

I agree with Redknapp. Football always offers surprises. We must respect Tottenham Hotspur. I know the mentality of English teams and, if I were in their situation, I would never throw in the towel. We will play a serious game and we’ll look to score goals. It will be hard for Spurs to make a comeback.

Players should be intelligent and know the situation they’re in. I will not reserve players with a double booking. One has to be aware that opponents will focus on playing their game and nothing else. We must finish the job we started and respect Tottenham Hotspur. Our current aggregate score is very good, but it is not definitive.

The main objective in Champions League knockout stages is to reach the next round. You don’t need anything else. I don’t know if we’re the only team that hasn’t lost a game in the championship, but if we’re not, then there are very few sides in our situation. What matters is that we reach the semifinals. It would be even better to do so by winning tomorrow’s game and scoring goals.

I don’t think I should talk about the possibility of ever returning to English football. My future is with Real Madrid. I have three years left on my contract and the club is happy with my work. I see myself coaching in England in the future, but Real Madrid is the only thing on my mind right now.

The Clasico doesn’t exist for me at the moment. We will play a quarterfinals match tomorrow and we shouldn’t think about anything else. It’s been years since the team last reached the semifinals. That’s our goal. We’ll have time enough to think about Barcelona after the match.

Xabi Alonso

This game has nothing to do with Real Madrid played against Liverpool. We’ve come here to win. I’m sure that Tottenham’s out for it and, if we are not careful, we’re going to take fright. We know what to do. The important thing is to have balance between defense and attack. If we score, their chances are going to be almost impossible.

I wish we could come back here on May 28 and get La Decima. We must go step by step and think about each game. But it is true that would be awesome to play the Tenth in London.

I do not know if it’s the best but we are very good. We have options in all competitions and is good for the coach to recover players to perform at their best on all fronts. It is a key moment and we know it.

Zinedine Zidane

The best advice is that Real Madrid should give respect to Tottenham and win the game tomorrow. Then we’ll see if we play four games against Barcelona. The match tomorrow will be key to all this and this is how we think. Nothing more.

(Speaking on the ninth title) We are in the right direction, but you have to go game by game and hopefully we can get to win all that is proposed to Real Madrid, but first you have to think about winning at Tottenham.
