Real Madrid once again showed their skill and class as they finished 6-1 winners over Racing Santander at the Bernabeu after a 2-0 win over AC Milan in mid-week. Real had earlier demolished Deportivo La Coruna with the same scoreline and now it was the turn of Sergio Canales’ former team.
– The attack was exemplary. We were simply fantastic in front of goal as Higuain scored the first goal. After that the whole night belonged to one man only – Cristiano Ronaldo. His four goals are the first four goals scored by a Real Madrid player since Fernando Morientes. The sixth was added via Mesut Ozil who very well placed the ball right in the corner.
– Passing was the reason the goals came freely. It wasn’t individual brilliance by any one person that brought about this scoreline. It was the combined effort of the whole team which helped us achieve this result. Di Maria provided a superb long ball to Higuain for the first goal. Higuain, Ozil, Di Maria were the ones which created chances for Ronaldo and the fourth was via a penalty kick. Ozil’s goal was created via a beautiful defence splitting ball by Xabi Alonso.
– This is not really a game positive per se but a positive for the complete season. Ronaldo and Higuain seem to have started understand where both of them come from and have been able to form a superb partnership which resulted in a 4-1 win versus Malaga where both of Higuain’s goals were created by Ronaldo and in this game Higuain created one for Ronaldo. We hope the two sort their differences out and prove that they are highly professional.
– Defence was top notch. Defence was once again solid and didn’t allow any clear cut opportunities for Santander. Carvalho, Pepe, Marcelo and Arbeloa have been great in the back and its surprising that we aren’t even missing the presence of Sergio Ramos who was out injured. Later on in the game, Marcelo was substituted which meant Di Maria moved in at the back which is a very strange place for him to play in but Jose knows what he was doing and it proved to be the correct way to go. Master tactician does it again! Lovely to see a manager’s name being chanted at the Bernabeu.
Conceding the goal. The defence was superb, the attack was great, the passing was super fantastic but one goal conceded can make a difference with the way the title race is going in La Liga where every goal scored and conceded matters. Agree the goal that we gave away was a lucky and a horrible deflection on the part of Rosenborg but these perfect games can do without such goals.
Hope our winning ways continue at Murcia for the Copa Del Rey. What are your views on how we played against Racing Santander? Where would you want to see changes (if any?)
