Hercules CF v Real Madrid La Liga

Real Madrid came back from behind to win 3-1 away to Hercules thanks to a Cristiano Ronaldo double and more importantly crucial play by Karim Benzema which helped create those two goals. Di Maria was the first to score for us on the night which brought parity into the game.

Early on we were down in as early as the 3rd minute through versatile and forever dangerous – David Trezeguet.

Now for a quick roundup of the positives and negatives from the game.

POSITIVES

– Most definitely the biggest positive from the game would be Benzema’s involvement in two of the goals scored. In the first goal, Benzema passed the ball to an on running Marcelo who then squared the ball for Benzema into the box who’s shot was punched by the keeper into the path of Ronaldo who made no mistake in putting the ball into the back of the net. In the second goal, Benzema passed the ball for an unmarked Ronaldo in the box to make it three for us. Two very crucial pieces of play that can definitely boost the Frenchman’s confidence.

– The second biggest positive is the mentality. Even though we went down by a goal and had Hercules coming at us on various occasions in the first half and they had 7-8 players defending near the box, we were never rattled by it and kept trying to get that crucial goal which could open their defence even further. We were patient to keep that passing going which has provided us with many goals so far this season. It was refreshing to see players not attempting from huge distances.

– Cristiano Ronaldo : “Mr.October” was once again on mark to score two goals and could have even scored a hatrick. He has been having a great time in front of goal and the trickery and magic has given way to goals and assists which again is what matters most. His shot from distance also created the first goal for Angel Di Maria.

NEGATIVES

Defence : To use a fellow Madridista – Saajid Vawda ‘s Tweet from the game would sum up the defencive display quite brilliantly.

Hey 2010 Real Madrid, 2009 Real Madrid called. It wants its shitty defense back.Sat Oct 30 18:23:30 via web

While Iker has been left to do nothing or very little  in the past few weeks, he saw the ball creep into his goal and see Hercules players put crosses into the area without much difficulty. Thankfully the second half saw less activity for Iker and more action on the other side.

This is probably the only negative that I could think of. Do you think of more? Comment away!

We next play AC Milan at San Siro in UEFA Champions League. Here’s to hoping the second leg goes the same way as the first leg did.

What did you make of the performance against Hercules?

Side note : I really loved how Hercules played despite being new comers to the league. Their determination and effort from back to front is the reason they beat Barcelona and Sevilla and have drawn versus Villareal. Sincerely hope they stay up :)
